Stemming from industrial cooperation, TUV also has experience in the telecommunications and air traffic control domains. Technologically, TUV has knowledge about CORBA, COM+ and EJB. TUV also serves as the project co-ordinator and provides expertise in managing research projects as well as expertise in industrial software engineering projects.

Faculty of Computer Science and Management, Wrocław University of Technology, Poland

Wroclaw University of Technology

Wroclaw University of Technology is the leading technical university in Poland. It comprises 12 faculties. In 2004 the university has been engaged in 27 EU 6th Framework Programme projects in the fields of: Electronics, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry and Technology Transfer

Faculty of Computer Science and Management (WIZ) was founded in 1968. Its basic research areas related to the computer science are: computer networks and distributed systems, expert systems and databases, information processing and computerization of information processes, computer control systems of complex processes.

Real-Time Systems Laboratory, Department of Computer and Information Science, Linköpings Universitet, Sweden

Linköpings Universitet The Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA) at Linköping University was founded in 1983, but the roots go back to the early seventies. It is one of the largest departments for computer and information science in northern Europe, with more than 250 employees of which over 65 Ph.Ds on the faculty, including 19 full professors. Approximately 180 postgraduate students are enrolled in the department's Ph.D. programmes, including more than 90 doctoral students holding salaried positions.

Research at IDA covers a broad spectrum of topics from core computer science to applications; including theoretical computer science, programming environments, software engineering, real-time and embedded systems, artificial intelligence, information security, databases, information systems, computational linguistics, cognitive science and autonomous systems.

The Real-Time Systems Laboratory (RTSLAB) is a laboratory in the Software and Systems (SaS) Division within the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA) at Linköpings Universitet. We conduct research in the areas of dependability and resource allocation in distributed systems. Among the topics addressed under the term dependability are:

  • Formal analysis of safety and fault-tolerance
  • Availability and survivability in critical infrastructures

Within resource allocation and distributed systems topics range over:

  • Quality of service (QoS) guarantees for real-time databases
  • Resource constrained embedded databases
  • Optimal resource allocation in wireless mobile networks

RTSLAB combines the above expertise areas in projects treating configurable components in real-time, fault-tolerant, and safety-critical systems.

Instituto Tecnologico de Informatica, Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, Spain

Universidad Politecnica	de ValenciaThe Instituto Tecnológico de Informática-ITI is a non-profit organization composed of research and academic institutions and various industrial firms. Its mission is the support of local industry to maintain a high level of technological competitiveness in the market. The support includes all the aspects of research development and consulting. Its objectives are to make IT companies activity more dynamic by introducing state-of-the-art technology, by preparing the personnel to face the new goals and by spreading and making available to the local industry all of these results.

The ITI’s Distributed Systems group (SiDi group) interests comprise all aspects of distributed computing. This includes topics like: distributed algorithms, operating systems design, high availability support, distributed memory consistency, multimedia distribution support, JAVA programming methodology, networking support, and use of formal methods.

Frequentis G.m.b.H., Austria

Frequentis G.m.b.H. FREQUENTIS vision of future communication and information systems stimulates the whole range of activities where safety is of supreme importance. The sphere of activities comprises air traffic control - where FREQUENTIS is already the world market leader -, the sector of public safety (police, fire-fighting services, emergency rescue services), the maritime and railway sector, and TETRA radio. FREQUENTIS systems are known for their state-of-the-art technology and reliability. Tailor-made and with excellent usability, they turn customer requirements into customer satisfaction.

Etra Investigacion Y Desarrollo, S.A., Spain

Etra Investigacion Y Desarrollo ETRA Investigación y Desarrollo, S.A. (ETRA I+D) is the hi-tech unit within ETRA Group, one of the leading industrial groups in Spain. Its mission is putting in the market the most advanced solutions and services either directly or through the 10 companies of the Group. The main market areas of ETRA Group are Spain, South&Central America, South East and the EU.

The basis of our success are the commitment with quality (ISO certification since 1997) and innovation, with an average increase of the R&TD expenditure in the last two of 7%, which is twice the Spanish average.

The activity of the company started in the 70’s and it is centred in four main activity lines.

The first line of activity -which was initially the dominant one - is urban and interurban traffic control. Since its start up, ETRA has developed an advanced technology in this area that has enabled the achievement of the market leadership, with more than 25 major cities using ETRA's systems.

The second line of activity is transport -mainly fleet management-. In 1982 the company launched its main product in this area: the S.A.E (AVL and Operation Aid System). The technology has evolved since then and the market has grown spectacularly. By the end of 1991, 200 vehicles were managed using ETRA's system; in 1995 this number grew up to 900, and at present 1.300 vehicles are managed using ETRA's technology.

The third main activity line is related to public lighting systems and energy control, an area where, again, ETRA has achieved the market leadership.

A new activity line is currently looking for new solutions to adapt and integrate the company's existing and new products within the Information Society framework.
